Mrs Josie Beks

Life before Girton:
I started my teaching career in a small country town before moving to Bendigo and taking up a position at a large primary school in the State system. I commenced at Girton in 1995 before commencing family leave in 1997. I then taught part time for many years whilst raising young children. I returned to full time teaching when living in Queensland then moved back to Girton in 2009.

What I Love about Teaching:
No two days are ever the same.

What is the best thing about teaching at Girton?
The children are well supported by the family, the staff and each other.

What do you like best about the year level you teach?
Preparatory children tell the truth as they have not yet developed a filter. This is both refreshing and highly entertaining at times.

My favourite classroom activity:
Maths rotations

What difference can good teaching make?
It engages the learner and makes the child a life long learner.

Other Hats:
I love to be busy and enjoy staying active. I have just ceased water skiing, having torn my hamstring, so plan to learn to surf on my stand up paddle board.
