Connect at TEDx Bendigo

21 September 2017

Girton Grammar School will once again host a TEDx Bendigo event with six speakers from a range of backgrounds addressing the theme of “Connected,” on 20 October 2017.

Speakers range from a Life Coach and Drumming Workshop facilitator to an IT Director and Paralympic athlete, with the event unleashing new ideas to inspire and inform the Bendigo community and beyond.

Headmaster at Girton Grammar School, Mr Matthew Maruff, said that the TEDx Bendigo event is open to anyone with an interest in how people connect with the world around them.

“TEDx is a unique concept, allowing people to share ideas internationally through the hosting of local events that are uploaded to the TED website.

“The concept helps to promote conversations that genuinely matter in a powerful and accessible format.

“We are expecting our speakers to tackle the topic from a range of angles, including exploring the concept of genuine connection in a world that is becoming smaller, with people better connected than ever through digital channels,” Mr Maruff said.

Speakers for the 20th October event, to be held at Girton Grammar School are: Joanne Baker
Managing Director, Righteous Pups Australia; Kate Lawrence, Storyteller, Writer, Coach and Host, Story wise; Julie Lovell, Teacher, Victory Christian College and Director, Nexus Bendigo Youth Theatre; Joe Ciancio, Director, Maxsum Consulting; Jim Cowie, Teacher of Mathematics, Violin, Viola, Guitar and Drumming workshop facilitator; Sam Byrne, Service Coach ANZ Bank, President Australian Goalball Association and Paralympic athlete.

“We live in a progressive city, exploding with interesting people and ideas and it is important to nurture a culture of public conversation on the things that matter to us.

“We hope that events like these make an impact on the wider world and hosting a TEDx event is just one way our students can make sure that Regional Victorian voices are heard.

“Having previously hosted two TEDx events, we are very excited to give our students the opportunity to design and deliver another professional event that will benefit the whole of Bendigo,” Mr Maruff said.

Tickets to TEDx Bendigo “Connected” are $10 and are available at: www.trybooking.com/SCOE Ticket. Sales are limited to 100 seats in accordance with the TEDx conference rules. The event will be held at Girton Grammar School, Wattle Street, Bendigo.
