Dr Michael Lichnovsky

Life before Girton:
Lectured in music at Monash University and freelanced as a saxophonist and conductor.

What I Love about Teaching:
Teaching from Year 5 through to Year 12 and seeing the growth in students as people. Watching who they become.

What is the best thing about teaching at Girton?
Working with my fabulous colleagues and students in the Music Department.

My favourite classroom activity:
Sharing a love of being interested and engaged in my subject matter, exposing students to musical performances and styles they never realised existed. Letting them see and hear the best of the best from around the world.

What difference can good teaching make?
Everyone had a teacher at school who showed what’s possible when people are both passionate and compassionate. There is real value in the work itself. Be a good person. It’s really that simple.

Other Hats
It’s possible to love the performing arts and the fine things in life and still find a different part of yourself at the MCG on a Friday night
