What I Love about Teaching
I love my job! I honestly can’t picture myself doing anything else. I know it sounds cliché, but it is so rewarding to know that I am making a difference.

What is the best thing about teaching at Girton?
Girton is the pinnacle of education within our region and I am so very proud to be a teacher here. The best thing is our amazingly talented students. They are our future and it is a privilege to be able to help shape their learning and guide them on their educational journey.

What do you like best about the year level you teach?
I have recently moved from Year Six into Year Three. The best thing about teaching Year Three is watching students develop confidence and independence. The look on their faces when they achieve something all by themselves is priceless!

My favourite classroom activity
I love teaching reading – Reading Rotations are my favourite part of the day. Students are so focussed on their individual tasks and the discussion that stems from Guided Reading groups is fascinating. Each child brings a different perspective to the task and this scaffolds their learning to a higher level as they discuss, question and confirm their understanding.

What difference can good teaching make?
The best teachers are the ones who truly take the time to understand their students. I have two personal examples of the difference good teaching can make. The late Mrs Betty Jenkin supported me immensely in my journey to find out who I wanted to become. She nurtured and channelled my enthusiasm and pushed me to pursue leadership opportunities. Similarly, my Year 12 English teacher, Mrs Winsome Wastell (who still teaches at Girton) took the time to develop a positive relationship with me and understand my needs as a student. She gently encouraged, pushed and developed my skills until I was proud of what I achieved. To this day, I am truly grateful.

Other Hats
I love travelling, netball, camping, fishing, four- wheel driving and boxing – pretty much anything outside. I don’t sit still for very long but enjoy the opportunity to read autobiographies and travel books to plan my adventures. I am also a mum to Izak who is 6 years old.
