Teaching and Learning

Every year, Girton’s VCE results compare very favourably with those of the major metropolitan Independent Schools, with all the benefits of being a school in a Regional location.

The Curriculum at the Senior School places an emphasis on preparing students for entrance into their chosen Tertiary institution. The focus is on producing thinking students who ask questions and have a love of learning.

Core subjects in Years 7 and 8 are; English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Physical Education, Japanese or French, Drama, Art, Music and Religious Education. Elective programs are offered at Years 9, 10, 11 and 12, including Engineering Design, Design and Technology, Business Management, Sociology, Systems Engineering, plus Outdoor and Environmental Studies. (Year level subject handbooks available).

Most students undertake a Year 12 course of study while in Year 11 and additional support is offered to students at the VCE level, which includes tutorials and intensive holiday classes.
